First Entry... here we go!

Hello there,

I think I'll start this blog honestly and honestly I don't really know how to blog yet since I have never really done it but I will give it my best shot. First off I'd like to say that I'm Scott Wiley and I'd like to make that clear since there are 3 other Scotts that are blogging about there art and animation work too.

I used to do a lot of sprite animations back at the end of secondary school. However I can't show these as they are mostly using copyrighted sprites but they are so old no one cares anymore. I have no real experience in drawing so my 2d animations using a pencil may leave something to be desired. Although for our first assignment we did make a circle drawing that I think turned out ok, why don't you judge this simple circle morph for yourself:

However I have been using the 3D program known as Maya for about a year maybe a bit more. We used it in our college Web Media course that was more media than web. Which was fine because that in itself has prepared me for this course by introducing me to the fun that is Maya. We had to make a 45 second animation advertising a game review show... no one finished but thankfully my group got the most done roughly half of it done. We all got Destinction from that project so it must have been half decent. I would love to show you it but the entire thing is in J-PEG format so that is a little difficult.

Life drawing and the history and theory of animation were both interesting... though interesting for different reasons. Life drawing was a bit of bore to me since I can't draw but it was good to know that they want to see progression not final masterpieces, another good point is that they want you to hate your own work and improve it... so I pretty much have it made. The theory and history was interesting because I loved the over-analysing of everything and discussing things like " Is this chair a chair? Or could it be a duck?" Afterall a chair is simply what we have been taught to call it, so I fit right in to that lesson since I do look and think about meaning and symbolism pretty much all the time. The stuff we watched though wasn't as interesting but I can put up with it if we get to talk that much beforehand.

While I may not have done that much drawing I do enjoy dabbling in photoshop, here are a couple of examples:
